I've just purchased the G2 Mini. How do I install the right program on my PC to recognize the device when I connect it?

For your phone to be recognized by the PC, I recommend on visiting the official website. Access then website then click on the Software tab and follow the instructions. You will need to install the necessary drivers and then install the Support Tool and the phone will be detected on your PC. With the help of the Support Tool you will be able to install firmware, recover, and perform backup operations.
The release of Android KitKat won't probably be released because the maximum version of Android that can be installed on this phone is 4.2.2 JellyBean. The phone is not in the plan of upgrades for KitKat. This means that KitKat will never be released for this phone.
